On Gosford Park:

Someone in the Downton Abbey tag was writing about how he/she was watching Downton and then watched Gosford Park. This is what this person wrote:

  • gosford park - did not enjoy this nearly as much as i thought i would. not sure why. eh. maybe if maggie smith had acted more like violet and said more witty things…ha…

UHM, WHAT.

“Oooh, yummy!”

“Oh, but none of us will see it.”

“How horrid!”

“Mary, I can’t open this wretched thing!”

“Oh yes, fairly horrid.”

“Of course, what she really is is wonderfully cheap.”

“Don’t clap, you’ll encourage him.”

privatemcsecksyfuxx:

I have legitimate fears, sometimes panic attacks, about how old Maggie Smith is getting. Like, I just hope she’s okay and doing well and that cancer better not fucking come back I swear to God. I’m very protective towards her.
I just watched Gosford Park for the first time and she’s just so great being the same old snide aristocratic grandma that we all love so much even though she’s an outspoken judgmental bitch and hates modern technology/progressivism. I want to be her when I grow up.

While the sting and snap to the lines is generally a joy, at times the miniseries wanders a bit too far into drawing-room comedy. There are cutting insults you feel the Dowager has been given not because she would say it, but because it’s so much fun to hear Smith deliver it. Not that she needs lines — her reaction to a swivel chair alone is enough to make you willing to pay a month’s rent on Downton Abbey.

TRUER WORDS HAVE NEVER BEEN SPOKEN. (via haveabiscuit-potter)

The writer is of course referring to the ‘stick that in your pipe and smoke it’ joke, which I’ve always thought was both glorious and awkward.

Such a fierce BAMF.

Such a fierce BAMF.

“Me? I haven’t a snobbish bone in my body!”

Gosford Park, one of my favourite movies of all time.
